HAPPY HOUR — GREAT WAY TO START A NIGHT IN BALI

One (more) great thing about Bali is happy hour – when you can buy drinks half the price or two for one and simply – chillax. Even better is the fact that happy hour in Bali usually lasts for two hours and in some places even longer!

From 5 to 7 pm, that time before you head for dinner, it is perfect to sip some cocktails or grab a few ice cold beers. From most southern part of Bukit to Canggu, Sanur and Ubud – happy hour is a great time for socializing and finding time for yourself. But do you know that “happy hour” was invented during prohibition years in the United States? When The Volstead Act was passed in 1919., everyone stopped drinking for 13 years. That is why prohibition-era Americans had to drink secretly before going out formally. That was kind of a “happy hour” fest of rapid, “happy” drinking. But even before that, it became popular in the bistros and bars of Paris in the 1860s and 1870s. After five o’clock in the afternoon, the time after work, people used to drink absinthe and it became known as ‘l’heure verte,’ or the green hour.” Hundred and fifty years later, “happy hour” means drink specials in bars and restaurants. And many times it will feel so good that you will stay well past the discount hours. Bali nightlife begins with this, and if you are wondering where is the best place to start, we suggest you hit one of many coastal bars where you can also witness the amazing sunset. And we have some more good news – drinks are not the only thing you get for a special price! In many restaurants, they are also accompanied with food.

Pizza, tacos, chicken wings or canapes – something to nibble while you sip your drink. If you are not a beer drinker and like something more sweet or sophisticated, you also came to the right island. Because however, you love your cocktails, there is no shortage of mixologist’s magic to enjoy in Bali. Shaken, stirred, blended, muddled, rolled…
Sweet, sour, sharp, soothing or spectacular… If you like gin, mandarin syrup, yuzu juice, ginger and green cardamom droplets or tequila with freshly pressed cucumber, jalapeno chili, cointreau, and fresh lime juice served on the rocks – Bali has it all. So find a couch, curl up, order a hookah, and enjoy your life. It is simply criminal not to try happy hour during your stay in Bali!■
