Kunyit or turmeric

Turmeric is arguably the most powerful herb on the planet at fighting and potentially re- versing disease. Research has proven that simply using turmeric as a food seasoning can reduce serum cholesterol levels. It is a known fact that high cholesterol can lead to other serious health problems. Maintaining a proper cholesterol level can prevent many cardiovascular diseases. It is also a great immunity booster and shields our bodies from viruses. Turmeric contains a substance known as lipopolysaccharide, which helps stimulate the body’s immune system. Its anti- bacterial, antiviral and antifungal agents also help strengthen the immune system. A strong immune system lessens the chance of suffer- ing from colds, flu and coughs. If you do get a cold, a cough or the flu, you can feel better sooner by mixing one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and drinking it once daily. It is also the natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent and can be used as an effective disinfectant. If you have a cut or burn, you can sprinkle turmeric powder on the affected area to speed up the healing process. Turmeric also helps repair damaged skin and may be used to treat psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

The protein and fibre in hemp combine to slow digestion, which prevents spikes in blood sugar and therefore sustains your body’s energy. A diet rich in hemp promotes digestive regularity. When sprinkled on your cereal or fruit at breakfast, hemp protein and fibre also help aid in satiety, which will pre- vent you from snacking and keep you fuller longer. The Omega-3 fatty acids in hemp reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure, and may even ward off Alzheimer’s disease. They also stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regu- late metabolism, and help the brain function.

The health benefits of lemongrass include relief from stomach disorders, insomnia, respiratory disorders, fever, aches, infec- tions, rheumatism and oedema. Lemongrass helps in cleansing and flushing harmful toxic wastes out of the body, as a result of its di- uretic properties. Detoxification helps in bet- ter regulation of various organs of the body, including the liver and kidney, while also helping to lower the levels of uric acid. It is also widely used in Ayurvedic medicine for its healing effects in treating coughs and colds. Along with other beneficial components, the vitamin C content present in it helps in pro- viding relief from nasal blockages, flu and other respiratory disorders such as bronchial asthma.■
