What NOT to eat in rainy season

While the rainy season may bring a relief from the scorching heat, it also brings series of infections and the occasional flu. It also reflects on our food and the way we eat.

Did you know that during rainy season you should avoid raw food and if you have problems with skin ditch mangoes completely? We give you explanations why these 7 things are best avoided while it is hot and humid outside.

MILK
Humid weather could suck the entire nutrient out of the foods and make perish fast- er than usual. Milk may go bad very soon and could be more harmful than useful. Milk could be consumed only if warm with a pinch of turmeric.

SALT
Consuming too much salt could lead to fluid retention and other uneasy and harmful things such as sluggishness, unnecessary hunger pangs and feeling weighed down. Things may get spoiled

FOOD
further if you are a cholesterol and heart patient. Make it a habit to eat salt in very controlled quantities.

FRIED FOOD
Fried food is one of the food items you should absolutely avoid this rainy season because highly humid weather causes our digestion process to slow down. However irresistible that fried chicken may seem, it could cause gastronomical complications like bloating and stomach upset. Extra salty food also causes water retention.

LEAFY VEGETABLES
It may seem counter-intuitive because all our lives we have been instructed about the importance of eating leafy vegetables. But it is strongly recommended to be careful about leafy vegetables in the rainy season due to the presence of mud, dirt, and worms. The grime and dampness present in them make them highly susceptible to germs. Say no to vegetables like spinach, cabbage, and cauliflower this season.

RAW FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Yes, eating fruits and veggies could prove to be bad for your health if they are raw. Wet season helps the germs grow faster, there- fore the freshly cut fruits, veggies, and salads that you consume might have a million germs, ready to enter your system. Steamed salads could be a great substitute for fresh salad lovers. Steam foods are light on the body and they preserve the minerals and antioxidants in the foods.

MANGOES
According to Ayurveda, mangoes have an inherent warming nature or one that aggravates Vata and Kapha doshas causing a serious acne problem.

We are talking about insects and those minute worms that may appear overnight in your unpacked food! Carefully check your packet of flour before you use it to prepare mouthwatering pancakes.■
