One of the latest food trends is beautiful acai bowls that make mornings easier and healthier as well. You can
find them in restaurants all over Bali for a real tropical treat.
So what exactly are these yummy acai bowls? Smoothie bowls topped with fruits like berries, bananas, kiwis, nuts, granola – you name it. Blending the purple berries and topping them with fruit, coconut flakes and granola makes a perfect healthy breakfast, brunch or snack. It would be great to have acai berries which are a cross between a grape and a blueberry but they come from South America, so any berry can do! Because they are low in sugar and contain great sources of iron, vitamin A, fibre, and calcium.
An acai bowl is basically a really thick smoothie that has been topped with oatmeal, fruit or peanut butter, and then you wolf it down with a spoon. Acai bowls look like ice cream, almost taste like ice cream, and make you feel good about your breakfast choice. It is what breakfast dreams are made of. After eating a bowl, you will not only feel happily full and have satisfied a sweet craving, you will have also done something that was good for you.
Basic ingredients are relatively slim and simple: if you can buy some unsweetened acai powder that is great, but you can also mix some frozen or fresh berries and bananas, and then throw in any other frozen or fresh fruit you choose to add. You can also put cacao nibs, coconut flakes, organic muesli, hemp seeds, flax seeds, chia and fresh ground peanut butter. The key is not just throwing all of the toppings onto the smoothie, but place everything nicely so it would look pretty! The most fun part is switching up the toppings and ingredients in the base. You can even add some spinach to make a green smoothie bowl for something different.■
